Spring Program

Spring Program / Annual Meeting

Date: May 21, 2026
Time:  7 PM
Location: KES All-Purpose Room

Topic: Ticks

The Killingworth Land Conservation Trust is excited to announce our speaker for our spring meeting, Tick Ecologist, Dr. Megan Linski.  Dr. Linski earned her PhD in Natural Resources and the Environment from UConn and has spent the better part of the last decade dedicated to tick research.  She will be joining KLCT on May 21st at 7 pm in the Killingworth Elementary School All Purpose Room to share her vast knowledge base with us!  Find out more about this exciting  program below:
Ticks are a well-established part of Connecticut’s landscape, particularly in wooded and edge habitats common on conserved lands. This presentation will provide a general update on the tick species found in Connecticut, the tick-borne diseases they can transmit, and recent trends in tick abundance and disease risk across the state. We’ll highlight what current research is telling us about how environmental factors such as climate, wildlife hosts, and land use influence tick populations and pathogen transmission.
The talk will also review evidence-based prevention strategies and ongoing research into tick management approaches, with an emphasis on what is known, what remains uncertain, and where research is headed. The goal is to share clear, up-to-date scientific information that helps community members better understand tick risk while continuing to enjoy Connecticut’s natural spaces.  The presentation will conclude with time for questions and answers.
Hope to see you all May 21st, 7 pm in the K.E.S. All Purpose Room!
